So, the YMCA are actively defending their support of their participation in the abhorrent Workfare scheme run by the DWP. Of course, this means they will be the subject of protests and pressure from everyone who has a vested interest in human liberty and the right to earn a fair day's pay for a day's work.
So for everyone who's going to protest, online and offline, here's a song that fits the mood and ought to provide a boost to the morale of those standing up for unemployed people.
Young man
There's no need to feel down
I said, young man
Pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man
'cause you're working for nowt
There's no need
To let them shaft you
Young man
There's a place you can go
I said, young man
When you want to say no
You can picket, and
I'm sure you will find
Many friends on that protest line
We've come to picket the YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
We just cannot abide
That they think we are toys
So let's stand up for all the boys
We've come to picket the YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
They have sold themselves out
To the DWP
And they're offering slavery
Young man
Are you listening to me?
I said, young man
Stuff the DWP
I said, young man
You can make real your dreams
But you got to know
This one thing!
Young man
You're not all by yourself
I said, young man
Take your pride off the shelf
And just picket
At the YMCA
I'm sure we can change them today.
We've come to picket the YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
We just cannot abide
That they think we are toys
So let's stand up for all the boys
We've come to picket the YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
They have sold themselves out
To the DWP
And they're offering slavery
Young man
I was once in your shoes.
I got sanctioned
Down and out with the blues.
I felt no man
Cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so tight
That's when someone
Came up to me,
And said, young man
Take a walk up the street
There's a place there
called the YMCA
We must put them on the right way
We've come to picket the YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
We just cannot abide
That they think we are toys
So let's stand up for all the boys
YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
Young man
Young man
We must put them all down
Young man
Young man
Get ourselves off the ground
YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
Young man
Young man
We must put them all down
Young man
Young man
Get ourselves off the ground
YMCA
We've come to picket the YMCA
Young man
Young man
Are you listening to me?
Young man
Young man
Do you want to be free?
